Dark purple colour turning to black, after swirling it will colour the whole glass. It is an exceptionally colourful wine, looking a bit like Georgian Saperavi in the glass. Rich in aroma, higher in alcohol and similar in expression to Syrah. Aromas of blueberries, plums, black pepper, balsamic, iodine, then mineral notes reminiscent of rusty nails. A full-bodied wine with high tannin and higher acidity. Ripe cherry, ripe redcurrant and spice on the palate. Complex with great aging potential. Completely dry. Cherry, acidity and tannin linger on the powerful aftertaste. Biodynamic grapes, low sulphur, for me one of the best performances of the refosco variety. The wine changes a lot, give it decanting, taste it for days to come. Pairs well with smoked meats, steaks and game.

The wine is very dark purple. The bouquet is calm and mature. The aroma is ripe dark red and black fruits, dried fruits, and also smells of marmalade. In the mouth the wine is dry, the body is strong, the tannins are not pronounced. A full-bodied, robust, uncompromising refoche, with a bright Mediterranean touch that gives a wonderfully varied set of sensations.

Grape variety: Refošk

Vinification: 4 days of cold maceration and 7 days of fermented maceration. Fermentation: inox (stainless steel yeast) + local yeasts, malolactic fermentation with local yeasts. Ageing: 20 months in stainless steel tank. Without clarification.

FRESH WINES

The wines, which the winemaker calls the fresh range of wines: Malvasia, Tris, Refošk, Bis - are carefully made but not too demanding wines from younger vineyards. They are aged in stainless steel containers for up to seven months on fine lees, which helps to make the wines not quite classically fresh and playful as they lose some of their primary aromas and gain exceptional elegance and full body. For a fresh line, the label uses a white base to convey their freshness, simplicity and elegance.

TERROIR - A COMBINATION OF VARIETIES, SOIL AND CLIMATE

Roughly speaking, the richer the soil, the more vines it can support and the lower the quality of the grapes. The poorer the soil, the deeper the vines take root and the more minerals the vines absorb, which are important for rich wines.

The Istrian soil of our vineyards is a mixture of flysch, composed mainly of marine sediments, siltstone and limestone. This soil composition gives the grapes additional value in minerality. The combination of variety, soil and microclimate, known in Istria by the French as 'terroir', is the well-known combination of Malvasia and Refoscia on limestone soils, which gives the wine its exceptional minerality and the uniqueness of this terroir.
