Lemberger FNR QbA 2018 Gustavshof BIO Demeter

SKU: 1109 EAN: 4260065960794

Intense ruby colour with purple flashes. Immediately after opening a captivating blackberry aroma, which intensifies after a while. The wine is smooth even over medium tannin. Good density, medium acidity which gives the wine freshness. The wine is dry, unfined and unfiltered. If you don't like Frankenfruits, I would still give this one a chance. It's ripe, with classy fruit playing instead of grassy notes, and silky and pleasant on the tongue instead of harsher flavors. Nice aftertaste, the wine leaves a great mouthfeel that beckons for another sip. The next day after opening the wine is perhaps even better, gaining in complexity and intensity. Have some venison with it. No added sulphites.

A dry red wine from the Franconia variety, also called Blaufränkisch.

It is a grape variety on the rise in Germany. A strong red wine from wooden barrels. Intense nuances of forest fruits and pepper. Long-lasting flavour due to high density and texture. 12 months storage in wooden barrels. Natural wine. Unsulphurised and unfiltered

Pairs well with: strongly spiced game dishes or vegetable dishes such as lasagne

Grape variety: Frankincense

Lemberger has found a home in the Gustavshof vineyards outside the classic Lemberger area. Gustavshof has been growing the grape variety for more than a decade and uses it to make varieties of Frankenfruits that are actually more towards Blaufränkisch.

The vineyards of this wine are located in the protected side valleys of the Kloppberg. Here you will find lime-rich soils with limestone, which are very favourable to the character of Lemberg red wine.

After the traditional fermentation of the must, the wine is aged for at least 12 months in wooden barrels.

Frankincense is a very demanding pairing companion. It requires a strong rival. However, once you fry the dish and season it well, everything is OK.

This Frankovka can be stored very well. Peak ripeness is 8-10 years or more after harvest, depending on the winery.

FNR are the initials of the winemaker's son Florian Niklas Roll and the character of the wine is based on his characteristics, writes Andreas Roll of Gustavshof.

Note: The year on the label is the year of bottling, not the year of harvest.
